The Plumbing Factory Brass Band online

During the delightful Spring 2008 concert, it was anounced that the PFBB won a Jack Richardson Music Award. The following is a picture of Henry holding the award.

Here is a nice horn pic John Conley took at the concert. More pics to follow.

Our Spring 2008 concert is dedicated to the memory of Rosemond Jacobs. She passed away on December 16th after a valiant battle with cancer. Our thoughts go out to her family. As friends, we are deeply saddened that she will no longer be able to play with us.

Recent news of the passing of PFBB Euphonium player Gord Cooper has saddened us greatly. He was a skillful player and contributor of music to the band. Gord, we will miss you. Our Spring 2008 concert will now be dedicated to the memory of two sadly missed friends.

Afterglow

I'd like to memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of
smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly
down the ways.
Of happy times and laughing
times and bright
and sunny days.
I'd like to tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun.
Of happy memories that I leave
when my life is done.

Our pictures from the fall 2007 concert are now up on the 'music' page!

About the PLUMBING FACTORY BRASS BAND

ounded in 1995 by Dr. Henry Meredith, the PFBB is patterned after the British-style brass bands which are seeing a revival throughout North America. The ensemble is based in LONDON, ONTARIO and performs regularly in the London area, and occasionally in various southwestern Ontario centres.

The ages of PFBB members span more than 50 years, and a few performers travel from as far away as Sarnia, Toronto, and even Belleville, Ontario to participate regularly in the ensemble. Some of Canada's finest professional and amateur musicians, as well as guest artists from New York, Michigan, and Indiana have joined its ranks to play the traditional instruments that create its unique sound.

Several of these brass instruments, plus any historical brass required for period performances, are provided from Henry Meredith's renowned and extensive collection. Dubbed "The Plumbing Factory" by visitors to Meredith's basement "museum," his collection of over 3300 instruments is perhaps the largest private collection of musical instruments on the continent. Both London City Life Magazine and the Toronto Star recently profiled the Henry Meredith Collection.

As a result of those publications, and of televison appearances (on such programs as "Canada a.m."), Henry received a call from the producers and props department of Disney's revival of Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" and was subsequently hired to provide all the historical band instruments from the 1912 era in which the story takes place, and to serve on location as Period Instrument Consultant. The made-for-TV movie, starring Matthew Broderick and Victor Garber, aired on the Wonderful World of Disney in February 2003 and is now available on DVD.

We still have copies of our compact disc, a "PFBB Sampler" entitled "Regal Repertoire by Request: The Plumbing Factory Brass Band, Live! In Concert" (released in January 2000). It was developed from excerpts of numerous past performances of the PFBB played as a backdrop to the London Regional Art and Historical Museum's exhibit featuring Dr. Hank's instrument collection. The exhibition ran from June 1999 through April 2000 and was entitled "The Bands of Time: Two Centuries of Instrumental Music in Canada."
